• With a view to foster economic development of the kingdom of Nepal, Nepal Industrial Development Corporation came into existence on June 15, 1959 by a special charter to improve and encourage industries in Nepal. • Hrishikesh, Ridi :

• Ridi, a famous place of pilgrimage, is situated on the border of Palpa and Gulmi districts of Lumbini zone in western development region. It is a common belief that worshipping Lord Hrishikesh after a dip in holy confluence of Ridi and Kali river helps attain divinity and absolve from worldly sins and sorrows. A great fair is held every year on Haribodhini Ekadashi (awakening of Lord Vishnu on the eleventh day of bright fortnight in the month of October November) and Makar Sankranti (the first day of the month when the sun enters Capricornus). On this occasion thousands of pilgrims even from neighbouring country congregate here.

• Buceros bicornis, the odd looking bird lives in dense forests skirting the inner and outer Tarai. People used to hunt it for oil contained in its yellow casque before His Majesty's Government granted it the status of a protected bird.

• Antilope cervicapra (Krishna Sar)
• Krishna Sar, a very attractive looking antilope, is a fully protected species in Nepal.
• Almost extinct from Nepal this animal has been found in a small number in Khairi of Bardia and in Royal Bardia wildlife reserve. It has high significance from religious point of view. To save this species from extinction in Nepal, a rehabilitation project has been launched since 1979 in Bardia.

• Born on June 11, 1920, His Majesty King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Deva is the tenth in the line of succession to the throne of Nepal as consolidated by his august ancestor Prithvi Narain Shah. Though the then system would allow him no more than most restricted facilities. His Majesty has left no stone unturned to qualify himself for tackling any problem connected with the fulfilment of his royal duties and democratic responsibilities. While remaining staunchly devoted to the best in the country's traditions, he has, by his actions, proved himself capable of social, economic and political reforms that have made fervid democrats and fire-eating revolutionaries gasp in wonder. He is a poet in his own right and practical in his approach to problems. King of an ancient land, he is proud to be a commoner of commoners. The service of his people is the dominating passion of his life.

• His Majesty King Mahendra is also the Pioneer of the Panchayat philosophy that may very well turn out to be - at least so for as Nepal is concerned - not only the Highest Common Factor of all the political philosophies so far propounded but also the culmination of all of them.

• Jaleshwar Mahadev, situated at Jaleshwar in Mohottary district of Janakpur Zone, is famous from religious standpoint. Jaleshwar Mahadev is found inside the temple seated under water from time immemorial. The phallus of Mahadev remains always immersed in water supplied from an unseen underground spring and so is called Jaleshwar. Mention about Jaleshwar Mahadev is found in Padma Purana and Skand Purana (Hindu Mythology). It is a common belief that it rains sufficiently when water is full inside and there is drought when water gets dry. Devotees from Nepal and India throng in large number to worship lord Jaleshwar.

• The Nepalese postage stamps were first issued in 1938 B.S. (1881 A.D.). Postal Services Department has organised"Nepal 81" a Philatelic Exhibition in the Royal Academy building, Kathmandu for 5 days to observe its Centenary.

• Royal Shukla Phanta Wildlife Reserve is situated at Kanchanpur district of Far Western Development Region of Nepal. This reserve was established in 1976 with a view to preserving and promoting the rare and declining swamp deer and other animals.

• Here we find abundance of flat grassland called 'Phantas' which is the prime habitat of the swamp deer. Several other species of wild animals like tiger, wild elephants, leopard, bull, spotted deer, hog deer, barking deer etc are also available here.

•  Late historian Surya Bikram Gyawali was born in Banaras in the year 1898 A.D. He acquired his primary and higher education in India. Gyawali engaged in his entire life in the practice of history and literature has made his significant contribution in the sphere of Nepali language, literature, culture and history. In order, to pay tribute to him to enhance the national grandeur, he has been awarded with Tribhuvan Puraskar and Prithvi Pragya Puraskar by Royal Nepal Academy and also with Gorkha Dakshin Bahu (first class) and Trishaktipatta (second class).
